The day I became a success story!

One year ago me and my wife had sold everything. We’d decided to move to a tropical island outside the coast of Australia called New Caledonia. As I stepped out of that airplane a thought hit me. What if this was just my first tiny step? What more could I change?

It took me almost one year to act on this thought, when I finally started Welcome to Insight. My plan is simple. I’m going to locate and try to destroy as many of my bad habits as I can. I will dedicate one year of my life to study successful people and then I’ll try to apply their routines and habits into my own life. I’ll let these new routines form the new me. So right now I’m going cold turkey on every single bad habit I can find. I develop tools that keeps me in check. I share those tools under the tools menu.

My philosophy is as simple as my plan. I’m listening to that voice inside of me, let’s call it intuition. When it says : – this is a good idea! Then I go for it. But when it says : – I don’t like this idea! I just throw it in the trash can.

Here’s what one day out of my life look like today…

04:30am

writing freely :

I’ve already been writing for over an hour as I start writing the post you’re reading right now. I do a two pages long “writing freely” exercise as soon as I roll out of bed at 04:30 am. This exercise is done by hand and I find it to be a great warm up for the day.

Meditation :

After I’ve been writing freely for two pages I continue with a meditation session. My meditation is divided into two sections these days. The first part is a kind of meditation where I concentrate on the breath. Every time my mind wanders I recognize what is happening and I return to the breath again. The goal is to be as calm and empty as possible during this part of the meditation. I’ve found that meditation brings me more mindfulness and internal calm for the rest of the day.

The second part of my meditation is an experiment that I started a couple of weeks ago. This experiment is based on the teachings of Abraham Hicks. You concentrate on things that you’d like to attract in your life and then you just let the universe work out the details for you. If I’m going to go all in I might as well go all in!

05:30am

Writing continues :

After my meditation I write one daily post for Welcome to Insight. What you’re reading right now is one of them.

06:30am

Life starts :

Now the clock is about 06:30 am and I’m starting to look at the clock for the first time today. It’s time to make some breakfast for the kids. My little boy likes to have his oatmeal in the morning and my girl usually wants toasts with some honey on it. After breakfast I take them to school.

08:00am

Daily exercise :

After I’ve dropped off the kids at school I go to the gym. At the gym I’m currently doing the “Brad Pitt Workout Routine” This is the actual routine that Brad Pitt used when he was preparing for his role in the movie “Fight Club”. I’m happy to say that since I landed on the island, I’ve lost about 5 kilos of fat and at the same time I’ve gained in strength. I’m starting to see the outlines of my abdominal muscles. Last time that happened was about 22 years ago. I’m forty years old today.

l listen to inspiring podcasts or books while working out. I like it, it keeps me focused. Eyes on the ball!

09:30am

Writing continues :

Now it’s time to have a look at the actual post I’ve wrote this morning. I might change a couple of lines here and there, then I make a quote for the Welcome to Insight Instagram account. I attach it to the post and today it looks like this :

I like the challenge of trying to express an insight with a couple of short words. The quote is a way for me to be able to post something on Instagram every day and link back to this blog. I am looking for like minded people out there. For now I’m not having a lot of luck with the whole “finding new friends” part. I mostly have visits from spammers in the bussiness of baby chairs and weird automatic written blogs right now. But that’s okay. I’m in this for the long run and I’m doing this for me first. It’s about my own personal development.

11:00 am

Lunch break :

Pick the kids up for their lunch break. At around noon we have a big meal together. It’s the first meal of the day for me. I’m doing the intermittent fasting, so between 18:00 at night and 12:00 o’clock at noon the next day I’m on a liquid diet. Which contains of coffee and water.

Chicken, fish and sometimes I make a whey protein shake to post those proteins.

I try to be as plugged in as possible when the kids are around. . If the kids are not really into hanging with their dad for the whole lunch break, I might squeeze in a 10-20 minute nap here.

13:00pm

Back to School :

Drop off the kids at school and then I get back to “work”. These two hours here are open for suggestions. Whatever needs to be done or feels good to be doing gets done during these two hours.

15:30pm

Pick up kids at school :

From 15:30pm to let’s say 19:00 I try to not have any heavy work that needs my full attention. These hours are dedicated to my family. Homework, play park, shower, movie time… Whatever feels right. When the kids wants to have time on their own in the afternoon, I might listen to an audiobook or a podcast while doing household chores. I’m soft like that!

19:00 pm :

Right now I’m putting together a French course that I will release on Youtube by the beginning of next month and then I’m collecting insights for my “Wall of Insight”. These are the kind of things I’m working on after the kids go to bed.

22:00 pm

Bonne nuit :

I’m passing out around ten pm.

The next day I do it all again. I’m constantly looking at the micro of my daily schedule to see if there is ways to make it even more efficient and interesting. I’m also careful about what kind of material I digest during my day. Trying to get as much value as possible.

Weekends are not so much dominated by schedule. I just see to it that I get the basic things done and then I’m free to have some fun on this beautiful island with my family. Hiking and going to the beach are our favorite things to do in the weekend for the moment.

Here’s the thing I’ve come to realize. All the things I have on my weekly schedule are things that I love to do. I picked all those things for a reason. I already feel like a success story. If I get to spend my life in this fashion then I’m satisfied. So the road of constant improvement works.

What’s next? I have no clue!
